You’ve seen the minimalist yet striking ‘burnt’ ostrich feathers gracing many hats both contemporary, historical, theatrical. Now learn the secrets to ‘burning’ the feathers to pleasing effect, including patterns.
Two techniques will be explained in class. Pros and cons of each method will be discussed.

Bring:

- Feathers:
- Ostrich (wing seconds are great; don’t bring your finest male wing feathers)
- Pheasant
- Coq
- Foam brush (1-2” wide)
- Painters tape
- Old towel
- Old shirt or apron to protect clothes
- Nitrile gloves
- Appropriate mask if sensitive to fumes, especially if you have respiratory issues
- Feathers:
Tutor will provide: ‘burning’ chemical (safe for skin; mask suggested)
