In this project we are going to learn how to create a retro-style fascinator, very popular in the 40s and 50s and which is back in fashion.
I will make a presentation of the materials that we are going to use.
We are going to learn to use the technical material to make the base of these headdresses, a hat interlining called «Buckram». We will see the technique to block this headdress using polystyrene base. We will talk about the different design possibilities and shapes that we can do according to the desired result.
You will learn how to wire the base and how to cover it with the first layer of flanelette. Once the base is built, we will cover it with the final fabric chosen by the student according to their taste.
We will talk about what must be taken into account for the trimming of the piece and the different possibilities.
We will then work on the back side of the piece, as important as the right side, for a haute couture headdress.
I will explain the different fastening systems for the fascinator and we will choose the most suitable one for our project.
The student must bring:
Needles, pins, thimble.
Threads of various colors.
Measuring tape.

Final fabric to cover the base of the fascinator.

Flowers, feathers, pearls, buttons, and other elements for the decoration of the headdress, according to the student’s taste.
